how do you know it’s time to find a new job?

There is no foolproof way of knowing when it’s time to make a move, however there may be a few tell-tale signs indicating you might be due for a change.

some things to think about…

  • Growth / advancement opportunities exhausted

If you’re feeling like there is no longer an opportunity for you to learn and grow within the role and organisation, it may be time to explore new opportunities.

  • Lack of satisfaction

If you’re no longer happy or satisfied in your job, or going to work every day is causing you stress and anxiety, it may be time for you to look for a role that will spark that interest and joy again.

  • Toxic work environment

If there is constant negativity, with a lack of support from your direct manager or the organisation, or if there are issues like bullying and harassment, it is probably imperative that you find a new environment which will support your well-being and productivity.

  • Inadequate compensation

If you feel that you’re not being fairly compensated for your skills and the work you do, do your research and explore other job opportunities. Keep in mind though that if you’ve changed industries and roles, compensation may not always be on par, as the organisation may need to take into consideration training costs.

  • Changes in your personal life

Relocation and family commitments might require you to look for a new role and/or organisation that will enable you to adapt to these changes.

It is important to carefully think through and consider your situation and weigh up the pros and cons before making a decision and change. Discussing these and other scenarios with a mentor or career advisor might also be valuable.
