Michelle and I recently attended the Educate Plus Vic/Tas Chapter Summit on 17 and 18 July at Carey Baptist Grammar School. The Committee, headed by Kaushini Fernando, put on a packed program discussing issues across Admissions, Alumni and Community Relations, Fundraising; and People and Culture. Attending various sessions, it was great to experience the conversations around each topic which highlights how valuable it is to not just learn from leaders but to also bring people together for meaningful exchanges that encourage learning and the sharing of knowledge.
One of the highlights at this Summit was around A.I. In his sessions, Julian Moore created such a buzz around the topic that a lot of conversations continued post-presentation. It was such an insight to think how quickly things have moved from just a few months ago where we pondered the question ‘what if we use A.I.?’ to focusing on how we can use it most effectively. Several key takeaways that resonated with me included that A.I. can help us work a lot smarter than harder; and that at the end of the day, it isn’t going to take away our jobs as most roles still need the human touch.
Rounding out the Summit at the Lunch Awards Presentation, Michelle was delighted to award the Gembridge Newcomer Award to Karyn Calder, Head of People and Culture at Strathcona College.
Congratulations to Mandy McFarland, Kaushini Fernando and the EducatePlus and Vic/Tas Program Committees on hosting a successful Summit this year!
